As a self proclaimed Pizza Nazi, I find it difficult to dine at places that don’t serve proper Neapolitan Pizza. The ones that do (and do it well), tend to be knighted with the ever-coveted AVPN seal of approval (Google it, I’m sick of explaining it). The best of that group is nestled right in the heart of Darlinghurst, on Palmer Street – Lucio Pizzeria.
The first time I had Lucio Pizza I was furious. How had I spent all these years eating less-than-perfect Pizza when this was place had been in my hood all along? To make matters more infuriating, their Polipetti Affogati was drenched in probably the best Sugo I’d had outside of Italy.
Lucio virgins should try the ‘The Lucio Special’ ($22), which is a half Margarita, half Calzone (filled with Ham & Ricotta). Diners who enjoy Barbecue sauce on their Pizzas should fuck off somewhere else.
Go there and get angry.
